World Bamboo Day - 18 September 2021
The report attached is a brief on the National celebrations held at Kibirong Wetlands, Aldai Sub-County, Nandi County. The Chief Guest was Dr. Chris Kiptoo - PS Minsitry of Environment and Forestry. He was joined by Prof. Gordon Tanui – Director Water Towers Agency; Dr. Dr. Joshua Cheboiwo Director KEFRI; Dr. Bureti – CEC Enviromnet and natural resources Nandi County and among others.
The celebrations were hosted by Nandi County Government in collaboration with other partners including International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation, Kenya Forestry Research Institute, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Water Towers Agency, Kenya Wildlife Service, Busia County Government, Eco Green, Nandi Bamboo Cooperatives Society, Busia Bamboo Cooperative Society, Moonlight initiative, Bamboo Association of Kenya, Back to Basics, among others.
The event was attended by over 200 members of the Public. This year’s theme was”
Bamboo for Water & Livelihood.” The event focused on bringing together stakeholders in the bamboo industry to look into engagements and future of the bamboo industry in Kenya. It also helped to inform on the existing gaps in bamboo adoption in Kenya and also helped in celebrating the achievements made in the bamboo industry and highlighted the next steps for those engaging in the bamboo industry in Kenya.
