The Role of CITES in Conservation of Flora: Global and Local context
Summary: CITES works by subjecting international trade in specimens of selected species to certain controls.
When species are transferred from Appendix II to I, it means that most of the species are endangered and need the full protection of Appendix I
Unsustainable trade, weak implementation of CITES requirements & escalating illegal trade contributes to transfers.
Species populations are reduced in the wild by: climate change, diseases, infrastructure development, and habitat loss.


Capacity Development Project for Sustainable Forest Management (CADEP-SFM)
Summary: The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEF) through Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS), and in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is implementing a project entitled; “Capacity Development Project for Sustainable Forest Management in Kenya (CADEP-SFM)”. The overall goal of the project is to ensure sustainable forest management is promoted in Kenya towards the national forest cover target of 10%.
