2012- To date: - Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and Quality Assurance & Chief Research Scientist;

My responsibilities include: Provision of strategic leadership in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of research and development programmes in the annual Performance contracting and the Strategic Plan of the Institute; Ensure effective and efficient dissemination of research findings for impact through production of publications of targeted information to clients through annual reports, brochures, guidelines, extension materials, exhibitions through ASK shows across the regions; oversees; Communication, Branding, Public Complaints, Corporate CV, IPR, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environment management system and Quality management systems policies for KEFRI that directs engagements and networking with staff, public, national and international organizations and quality assurance managements systems for quality products and services delivery.

2005- 2012: - Manager Corporate Affairs and Public Relations and Principal Research Scientist;

Duties included; assisting and mentoring scientists in Projects Proposal development on agroforestry systems and tree Eco physiology in drylands, most of whom were undertaking PhDs and MScs in Agroforestry and Naturals resources management.

2001- March 2005: Project Manager and Principle Research scientist:-

I was the Manager of Agroforestry Research for Integrated Development in Semi- Areas of Kenya (ARIDSAK) Project which was multi-institutional collaborative project in lower eastern of Kenya. My research was species evaluation for multiple use, technology transfer to farmers and participatory on farm research. I also lead scientist in the Desert Margin Programme (DMP); a GEF /UNEP sponsored project. I chaired the task force carrying out survey on integrated Natural resources management status and opportunities in the southern rangelands of Kenya, Turkana and Marsabit Counties of Kenya.


1997-2000: Senior Research Scientist and Research Fellow with ICRAF.

I worked with International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) as research scientist at Machakos Research Centre while undertaking my PhD studies. My research work involved management and evaluation of Roots and Competition in intercropping systems.

1993-1997: Head, Dryland Silviculture Programme and Senior Scientist.

I headed the Research programme at KEFRI headquarters where I coordinated the institute’s dryland research projects and programmes activities nationally and regionally.

1989- 1992: Forestry Manager, KITUI KEFRI/JICA and Research Scientist I;

Worked with Social Forestry project between governments of Kenya and Japan based in Kitui County. My research work included species germplasm production and multiplication, trial establishment and assessment, on farm trials and participatory extension within farmer’s fields.

1986-1988: Officer-in-charge of Bura Fuelwood Research Project; Bura-Tana and Assistant Research Scientist.

I worked with a bilateral project between the Governments of Kenya and Finland at Bura Irrigation Scheme under supervision of Helsinki University. My research duties included experimental research planning, designing and implementing research trials specifically geared towards irrigated forestry for fuelwood, agroforestry practices, woodland conservation and evaluating useful tree species for wood products, food and environmental services and reporting.

Administrative Responsibility

Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and Quality Assurance & Chief Research Scientist;

Provide strategic leadership in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of research and development programmes in the annual Performance contracting and the Strategic Plan of the Institute; communication and dissemination of research technologies, quality assurance in Performance contracting deliverables, quality management systems, CSR, Branding, IPR and consultancy.
